Classes and Small Groups

Sunday Morning Classes

The longest running class at University Christian, the Seekers meet together to discuss big picture issues in a welcoming and curious discussion. Equal parts academic conversation and small group support, this class is known for teachers who double as professors or ministers and for laughter that ricochets down the halls. They meet on the first floor at 9:30

Forum Book Study

The Forum Book Study chooses one book of a theological nature to discuss weekly as a group. Past choices have included Richard Rohr, Marcus Borg, Thomas Cahill, Thich Nhat Hanh, and A.J. Jacobs. Often, these discussions relate more back to how each person engages the text, rather than trying to organize each fact correctly. They meet in the library at 9:45.

Coffee Conversations

Coffee Conversations typically studies a mixture of theology and current issues – especially those facing young adults, like “how do I be faithful while struggling to find a job,” or “what does Jesus’ promise of healing mean for my bad past relationships?” We meet on Floor 2 on Sunday’s at 9:30.

Weekday Groups

Each month, the members of UCC who live in the northwest section of Austin gather together to share a meal. Their conversations often take them to questions of ministry, service, and church engagement, but more so than anything this group continues to meet out of the friendships and bonds that have developed. Theology Pub

Theology Pub meets at Austin Terrier at 7:30 on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Over dinner (and maybe some drinks), we’ll discuss current events and big issues of faith – who is God? What is the Church? What does it mean to be community? ┬áNo formal training needed – everyone is welcome (and Austin Terrier is family-friendly, for those who don’t, can’t, or shouldn’t drink)!

Labyrinth Progressive Ministry meets throughout the week with various times and locations. This ministry, designed primarily around college-aged students, hosts a weekly worship at 6:30 on Sunday evenings, Bible studies, Starbucks Happy Hours, and times for mediation and reflection. Find more about the connection between UCC and Labyrinth here, and find the details of when and where Labyrinth meets on their website.

Our Deacons are responsible for aiding the work of the church – from serving at the communion table to helping organize meals for sick members. Our deacons meet regularly and are elected by the church. They act as a ministry team and support group, learning how to become ministers in their daily lives through their work at UCC.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is designed to be run by lay members of the congregation.

Our chancel choir practices throughout the year on Wednesday evenings at 6:30, and our bell choir practices at 5:30, also on Wednesdays. To learn more about our music, or getting involved, please check out our music page.
